Measuring scales as a part of modern nursing of a patient with brain injury.
MAROVÁ, Markéta
My diploma thesis deals with measuring scales, which are a part of modern nursing care of a patient with a brain injury. The aim of my work was to find out how nurses use measuring scales, to analyze difficult areas of the patient throughout the disease by using measuring scales, to observe in which way measuring scales help patients and in which way they help nurses. We laid down four investigative questions to fulfill these goals: In which way do the nurses work with measuring scales? Which are difficult areas of the patient with brain injury during his disease? In which way do the measuring scales help patients? In which way do these help nurses? The research part of my work was implemented in the form of quality approach through semi-structured approach and case study. The research sample consists of twenty probands - fifteen nurses meeting patients with brain injuries within their work and five patiens with brain injuries. Results of the research investigation show that nurses use measuring scales during their work nearly all the time of patients hospitalization. Majority of them already became acquainted with measuring scales during their studies, at least theoretically. These nurses would appreciate learning how to use them more practically. Superiors require using measuring scales by nurses. It is proved that nurses use very similar measuring scales at their departments with minor exceptions. Nurses responding in our research in majority of cases do not use special measuring scales for patients with brain injuries and their awareness of these is minimal. They agree Glasgow Coma Scale is considered to be the most important one. My research revealed minor deficiences in work with measuring scales. It also showed many problems which patients with brain injuries must deal with. The results of my research also show that measuring scales can help both nurses and patients in many ways.
The Motivation of Spouses to stay together after a Brain Injury
Vaněčková, Anna ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Šulová, Lenka (referee)
This diploma work deals with the situation of married couples, people who suffered a brain damage. After a brain damage many various mental changes of grave importance may appear apart from the physical consequences. These consequences affect not only the person that suffered the brain damage but also his closest mainly his partner and affect also the quality of their marriage. The theoretical part of the diploma work deals primarily with the importance of the marriage from the sociological and the psychological point of view as well. Further the work focuses on the brain damage itself and its consequences. The attention is further drawn to the impact of such situation on the husband or wife of a person after brain damage. Following part deals with the motivations for marriage. The empirical part of the work focuses on qualitative research based on eight individual in-depth interviews with husbands/wives of a person after a brain damage. The main goal of the work is to map the motivation of a husband/wife of the individual after a brain damage for remaining in marriage and identify other factors connected with this motivation.
Monitoring of the nervous system of patients with craniocerebral injury - Nurse's role
VANIŠOVÁ, Štěpánka
This theoretical thesis focuses on monitoring of nervous system of patients with craniocerebral injury and the nurse´s role in the problem. Its aim was to provide a general and comprehensive overview of craniocerebral injury and also the monitoring options of nervous system of patients with this particular injury, and to map out the nurse´s role in monitoring of nervous system of patients with craniocerebral injury. In order to achieve the objectives, the method of review and data synthesis was employed. The sources for the thesis were sought out through professional foreign databases, internet browsers and with the help of catalogues and databases of libraries. It was drawn from professional literature, both domestic and foreign, in electronic and printed form. Owing to the development of technologies, new monitoring techniques of nervous system appear in clinical practice. Such techniques are somewhere considered standard, elsewhere they are only being introduced or there has been no experience with such techniques at all. The nurses working with patients with craniocerebral injury should have sufficient information on this problem. Unfortunately, literature dealing with this issue and intended for nurses is scarce in domestic sources. Thus the theses might at least partially serve as a study material both for nurses and students. In the thesis, patophysiology of craniocerebral disease is clarified as well as current most often applied methods of monitoring of nervous system of patients with craniocerebral injury, both abroad and in our country. In the next part of the thesis, the individual monitoring methods are supplemented by information used especially by the nurses working with patients with craniocerebral injury in Intensive Care Units.

Adaptation of the EBIQ neuropsychological questionnaire for the diagnostic of the emotional and psychosocial problems after brain injury.
Wolfová, Beata ; Kulišťák, Petr (advisor) ; Stehlík, Luděk (referee)
Neurorehabilitation for people suffering from brain injury has traditionally focused on rehabilitation of the somatic and cognitive functions. Research into the emotional aspects of brain injury has, however, been limited. The theoretical part of this thesis was therefore to map diagnostic tools suitable for the investigation of emotional problems of patients after brain injury and to classify these tools for the needs of neuropsychological practice. In the empirical part the author focused on the adaptation and pilot verification of the EBIQ (European Brain Injury Questionnaire) neuropsychological questionnaire, for a sample of patients having experienced brain injury and their immediate family and friends. The practical outcome of work in addition to the psychometric characteristics is a Czech working version EBIQ-P (version for patients) and EBIQ-R (version for family members), including well-prepared instructions for evaluating the results and examples for use in clinical practice. EBIQ provides an alternative to the previously used questionnaires SCL-90 and MMPI-100, since these, according to our findings and the findings from other studies on the group of patients after brain injury provide invalid results.
